Ah Hwee Bbq Chicken Wings and Spring Chicken sells succulent barbecued chicken wings since 1979. At any point of time, they can grill up to 100 chicken wings without compromising the quality, all thanks to the founder’s quick thinking of customising a multi-tier “HDB” wing grill tower rack. The whole chicken wings are savoury, comes with a spicy ginger based chilli sauce and lime. Minimum order of 3 wings at $1.30 each. Highly recommended.

Song Kee Fried Oyster 松记 with a Michelin guide recommendation sells fresh off the griddles fried oyster omelette or “orh jian” fried oyster starting from $4. A plate of basic fried oyster comes with a good amount of gooey starch, fried toasty egg that gives it a unique texture topped with 4-5 good size oysters. Haron Satay & Chicken Wing is one of the famous Satay stalls in East Coast Lagoon Food Village that often draws long queues of patrons for her delicious satay. They used to supply satay to our National carrier SIA for the first class and business cabins. Their menu consist charcoal grilled beef, mutton and chicken satay. A minimum order of 10 sticks is required at 70 cents each. You are free to mix the type of meat for this order. The satays are known for the smoky flavour with succulent marinated meats and a malty spiced flavour that many loved them for. The Javanese style peanut dip for the satay is also must needed to complete this satay experience.

Choon Hiang (春香) has 4 different dishes on her menu – char kway teow, fried Hokkien mee, fried rice and mee goreng. Our go to dish on her menu is the fried Hokkien mee when your cravings for mee strike you at East Coast Lagoon Food Village. A simple plate of Hokkien mee ($4) comes with some flavourful yellow mee and beehoon soaked in a savoury broth and topped with deshelled prawns and some squid rings. The chilli is a must to heighten the umaminess of the whole dish with its shrimpy flavour.

The bak kut teh has a herbal and peppery flavour with some fork tender meat. The braise pork trotter comes in either the fatty gelatinous skin with gooey tendons or the meatier skinless ones. If you like the best of both worlds, always ask for the half fat and lean meat pork trotter. Get the preserved vegetable as well for that extra savoury kick.

Each popiah ($2.20) comes with shredded jicama, crunchy bean sprout, crab stick bits, egg, shrimps flavoured by a hint of hoisin sauce wrapped in a sushi style roll using some elastic doughy skin.
