We were at this 7-Eleven outlet at Punggol Plaza where we had a first hand experience of the popularity of 7-Eleven’s ready to eat The Travelling Spoon convenience food. Hungry school going children who are just released from school, are looking for lunch options. Besides the usual snacks like chips, we actually witness parents/ caretakers choosing ready to eat food as a quick and filling meal to satisfy their hunger pangs.
There are 2 new noodle creations and 2 carbs selections. From left to right – Killiney Traditional Laksa, My Kampung Chicken Char Siew with Fragrant Rice, Rumah Makan Minang Ayam Belado with Nasi Kuning and Beach Road Prawn Noodle Soup.
This is Killiney Kopitiam at Lor Telok. Killiney Kopitiam is Singapore’s oldest Hainanese coffeeshop since 1919. They are popular for their local style breakfast such as kaya toast, aromatic coffee and local food such as laksa. Only certain Killiney Kopitiam outlet such as their Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal outlet is halal certified.
This is how they make their laksa. Ingredients such as fishcake, hard boiled eggs, fried bean curd, bean sprouts, fresh prawns, and fried beancurd skin are added to a bowl of al dente rice vermicelli. The bowl of noodles is doused with a tasty rich coconut shrimp based spicy broth.

Their unique chicken char siew rice is the dish selected by The Travelling Spoon for the collaboration with My Kampung Chicken Rice. This nostalgic chicken rice is founded in 2017. It is by Yew Kee Group who has been around since 1960s with origins from the Nee Soon kampong.

This is Rumah Makan Minang, one of Singapore’s most popular Indonesian Minangkabau cuisine. In collaboration with The Travelling Spoon, they have created the Rumah Makan Minang Ayam Belado with Nasi Kuning Ready-to-Eat box.
Founded in 1954, this multi-generation restaurant has been serving traditional and authentic spread of halal dishes. You can find popular dishes such as Rumah Makan Minang Ayam Belado with Nasi Kuning, curried vegetable, fried meats and more.
Now you can enjoy this anywhere, Rumah Makan Minang Ayam Belado with Nasi Kuning ($6.50). This ready to eat consists of baked chicken with sambal belado, fragrant Nasi Kuning and omelette. Spiced chicken with fiery chilli paired with fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk and turmeric.
This is Beach Road Prawn Noodle House at East Coast Road founded in 1920s. Nostalgic prawn noodle with a huge crowd. They are known for hot noodle soup with fresh prawns. This dish is selected in collaboration with The Travelling Spoon for this latest series of ready to eat food. The soup base for these ready to eat meal at 7-Eleven is made with chicken to adhere to halal certification requirements instead of their usual pork bone based soup at their physical stall.
The team at Beach Road Prawn Noodle House works like clockworks where everyone has a dedicated task at the preparation & stove area. Do note that this outlet is not halal certified as pork is served.
