We are trying their ala carte Chinese cuisines and dim sum. We had roasted crispy Peking duck, stir-fried kurobuta pork cube with bonito flakes, stewed sea cucumber with shrimp roe & scallions from Peach Garden a la carte menu. From the dim sum menu, we had deep-fried yam dumpling, steamed fresh prawn dumpling, steamed chicken feet, steamed bbq pork bun, steamed siew mai with fish roe, deep-fried prawn dumpling with salad sauce and deep-fried bean skin roll with seaweed.
The highlight of the menu has to be this Roasted Crispy Peking Duck. The duck has a lacquer finish look to it and infused the air with aroma of pleasant smokiness. The skin looks taut and well roasted with even alluring tan through the entire duck. This is Peach Garden Chinese Restaurant’s very popular Roasted Crispy Peking Duck.
Peach Garden Chinese Restaurant’s Roasted Crispy Peking Duck are served whole to the table. The general manager will assist in the live carving of the crispy skin at your table. The skin of the duck is inflated, separated from the meat and roasted till extremely crispy. The skin is carved out skillfully with a fork and a knife and plated separately from the meat.
In my opinion, the skin is very well done and rendered to a caramelised shade. The skin is one delightful crunch of aroma and burst of flavours. Only the skin is carved out to be enjoyed and the meat of the duck can be use to do a second dish with a top up of $15 onwards. You may have a fried duck meat ee fu noodle or stir fry duck meat with scallions.
Peach Garden Chinese Restaurant’s Roasted Crispy Peking Duck are served with sides of scallions, cucumber sticks, sweet bean sauce and egg crepe wrap. Put a piece of crispy duck skin on the egg crepe, add cucumber, scallions and a drizzle of sweet sauce over it. Wrap it and enjoy the umami savour bite of crispy duck crepe.
Stewed Sea Cucumber with shrimp roe & scallions in casserole are a hot stew of soft springy bite of gelatinous sea cucumber. The sea cucumber are glazed with a savoury earthy umami from the shiitake mushroom. We love that the sea cucumber are thick cut that aids in the enjoyment of the texture.
Sea cucumber is known for its healing properties which is anti-fatigue, energy booster, high in collagen and a good source of anti-oxidant. This dish feels very nourishing and comforting. It is served in casserole which kept the contents warm while we ate.
Steamed BBQ Pork Bun are served in a traditional bamboo steamer. The bun are those light and fluffy type with some mixed lean and fat bbq pork as fillings. The texture of the bun is springy and airy, complemented by the sweet and savoury pork fillings. The bun has bloomed like flowers in the center revealing traces of the fillings when served. A very pretty sight.
Deep-fried prawn dumpling with salad sauce are super crunchy. The filling are whole prawns & meat paste wrapped in a dough skin. The sweet snappy prawn texture pairs well with the rich cold salad cream served with it. The crunch is definitely loud with this one and we like it very much.
Deep-fried yam dumpling are bbq meats encased in a light floss with yam dough as the casing. The floss are very fragile and shatters the moment you bite into it.
The rich yam flavour from the casing and the savoury moist bbq meat fillings quickly takes over and holds all the texture together. This is quite a filling deep fried yam dim sum with a satisfying creamy flavour. This is one of the newer items on Peach Garden Chinese Restaurant dim sum menu which introduces new items from time to time.
Peach Garden Chinese Restaurant at Thomson Plaza has grand banquet dining hall with classy interiors. The dining ambience is great for family gatherings, business meetings and can host up to 220 guests at one time.
