Xin Yue Lai Bak Kut Teh recipe is an old school herbal recipe from JB that is used for three generations. Quoting Xin Yue Lai Bak Kut Teh recipe owner Auntie Yue Lai “This isn’t just a recipe; It’s a legacy of love and warmth, simmered in a pot of fragrant herbs and spices…. & a deep, savoury broth that speaks of home…” We were told by the chef that to align with the taste palate of locals, they have tweak the herbal recipe to better suit the mass, making the broth lighter and less sweet.
Xin Yue Lai Bak Kut Teh is also serving some viral dishes with a twist of their own. The recent popularity of claypot prawn and lala related dishes drove them to create their own unique version of claypot prawn in herbal broth and lala soup in ginger wine soup. Besides these viral food, they also have some homely local cuisine creations by their by seasoned chef.
Besides the herbal bak kut teh, you can also try their braised dishes such as the braised pork knuckles simmered in a dark sinfully savoury sauce. The pork knuckles is braised till fork tender but firm enough to be picked up with chopsticks. The tender meat is held together by a melty layer of skin full of collagen. I could wolf down a bowl of their shallot oil rice just with this dish alone.
They also have other traditional dishes such as the ginger and wine chicken and sesame oil chicken for those who love comfort belly warming dishes. These dishes are believed to have health benefits by the older generation, such as to improve blood circulation and get rid of the “wind” in the body. These dishes are often found in confinement menu for mothers.

It is also a more convenient location at Jalan Besar, to get your hands on these viral claypot prawn and lala dishes. The prawns are sweet, crunchy and of a good size. The herbal soup base is similar to the herbal soup base as their signature Bak Kut Teh. Get this if you want the best of both worlds, the bkt herbal soup base in a seafood option.

Unlike the peppery bak kut teh, this herbal style has many ingredients in it. In this medium size pot, there are pork ribs, pork belly, pork balls, pork stomach, tau kee and button mushroom. This dish is great for those who love a variety of ingredients in their herbal claypot.
That is not all, if you want your pot to be more luxurious like the one pictured above, you can add on more ingredients from $2.00++. You can add on fish maw, razor clams, pork slice, pork kidney, button mushroom, pork liver and enoki mushroom.
We overheard another table adding double servings of their fish maw for their pot of goodness. The fish maw are indeed compatible with this dish, soaking up all the savoury juice, soft and springy.
Gong Bao Chicken Feet is also a new dish on their menu. Do not be fooled by this seemingly savoury looking dishes, it packs a punch too with the heat. The type of heat that is shiok and enjoyable and kicks in after a while. You can taste a mild herbal undertone with the savoury and heat taking center stage. This is like those chicken feet wanton noodles type but with more kick. Xin Yue Lai Bak Kut Teh are pretty good with their braised dishes.
Claypot lala soup using Live Venus Clams. This is also a new dish made old school way with ginger, wine and the lala sweet natural oceanic juice. Most important of all, you can see the pot of live lala at their preparation show kitchen squirting water.
This lala claypot dish is topped with sweet garlic, ginger sticks and in a whitish wine soup with an invigorating aroma. Those kid who are brought up in the olden days by their grandmother, will find this dish very familiar, the garlic aroma with sweet gingery wine soup.
There are also various other traditional dishes to try such as nan ru crispy pork belly in fermented beancurd marinade, cai po fried tofu with preserved radish, har cheong chicken wings with gooey chilli sauce, soft and buttery braised large pork intestine, tender and cakey small intestines, steamed seabass fillet with salted black bean, handmade fried prawn roll, fried chye poh egg and blanched lettuce, all in this nostalgic marble furniture with clean interior. Do not forget their Guiling gao herbal jelly with honey, homemade barley drink with pandan and rock sugar or a hot tea pot of aged puer, jasmine or Nanyang oolong to cut the grease if any. You also get to redeem a plate of osmanthus wolfberry jelly for every table.
