Well I don't think Singapore Idol is at its last yet, though many evidence such as SI website and some other interviews talking about this. However, according to the Electric New Paper:

"..Mr Patrick Schult, director of operations in Asia for Fremantle Media, which co-owns the Idol format, insisted it's 'premature' and 'wrong' to jump to conclusions.

Discussions will take place only after the current season is fully judged and accessed."

So I think we shouldn't speculate and jump into conclusions about it.

well im very sad bout the fact that singapore idol got last season le. mediacorp's fade of having so many star searching contests is finally going down. but i would like to say that, singapore idol should not be last season. many other star-searching contests should end, but not singpore idol. but oso of the drop of viewers and quality. so maybe it should stop for 4 years or so and then come back again. maybe then, there is new found talents.

Spore Idol:
Well I was like any working class audience who didn't give two-hoots about Singapore Idol. I am never on time to watch SI at the programmed air time. Even in the first season I only happened to watch 1 episode where Oli was singing...didn't even watch the result show to see if she was in or out.

There happened to be a talk about Paul Twohill at my workplace which is surprising to come from serious working people like my collegues and clients. So I did a search on Paul Twohill, to find YouTube video clip uploads by Singapore Beauty. Watched the renditions on "Here Without You" and "Superman" and bam! That rendition elevated me to a whole different dimension, like Ja said "Paul..you gave me hope" (refer to http://www.paultwohill.info)

I understand the limitations of a Singaporean young artiste so I didn't have high expectations of the vocals. However I felt the emoting, the whole package of the hair, stage presence and star quality of Paul...eventually the consistency of identity...I felt Paul has what it takes to be the next Singapore Idol.

Even as right now he is not the next Singapore Idol...I believe he will get more gigs, he will get more contracts. With the right mentoring (vocal+on-stage delivery, not my forte) and the right contacts and marketing (which I can be of help :þ) Paul Twohill can sell.

I don't idolize Paul like a teenage fan, its not easy for anyone to get my attention, esp someone who can be my son (in terms of maturity at this point of time). I just believe in that elevation from the 2 mentioned songs and I support Paul all the way.

My nong nong reply to you Spore Idol, hope it answers your question.

Woohoo that was lengthy. PaulTwohillInfo, u were previously Sharon right? You seem to be one of the few who could tell a good singer from a... substandard one. So what's your reason for idolizing Twohill instead? Peace.

Well, may be its the conservative image pressure that restricts creativity and being edgy on stage in Singapore Idol. This is probably so much so that MediaCorp could be trying to keep the program very mainstream safe. Being safe restricts creativity towards how interesting a performance can be.

What is really lacking in Singapore is quality time to do what we really like doing, especially if we have limitations in our very basic resources. We either have work long hours or we have to cope with attention demanding school work. We do not have time to watch videos over and over again to learn/research how professional pop stars sing and dance. And if we are not established in anything in the first place, its hard to network ourselves to image consultants and media-directors who can help us in this field.

Having to either to go to school or having to work even a part-time job in order to survive would mean the performing arts would not be a priority. It would be a hobby, rather than the only meal ticket. Thus the drive and motivation to excel in it, will not be as strong.

So we can't blame the contestants, its already not easy for them to be there on TV. The judges are also governed by the Media who wants to keep the program safe for all ages. The audience...Well most of the working class audience do not take Singapore Idol seriously. Or also have no time to watch Singapore Idol live due to long working hours. Not all have available access to computers at home. Not many have discovered YouTube and Singapore Beauty. Singapore Idol needed working votes which would give much more right judgement to the Idol who would represent us in the international competition. But its just not met due to the mentioned reasons.

Its just too bad...I don't know how true it is, I heard that this season of Singapore Idol is going to be the last. I hope not I hope there will be more publicity of Singapore Idol the next time round to get more working class people to vote.

Well I have a hobby website of Paul Twohill. Just click on my name and you'll get there. Its clearly thought out with lots of potential ideas but uses a simple layout. Check it out with it being a hobby website in mind, you'd understand this comment I've made today. http://www.paultwohill.info or click on my nickname to get there. Please do sign my guestbook. Thank you

personally, nurul should not b out tat round.
then rahimah i tink is very good, i think she can actually make it to the top 4 or 5 without much of a problem.

i think singapore idol really lacks talents. in whole, we should have a singer with quality.

oso, maybe the judges could have some choice in the competition. fans do lack some judging ability, they ignore the judges, keep on voting despite poor performances and so this singapore idol is a letdown. i think it is wise to take out the show. we hardly find any true talents like mathilda in singapore and the other fans of other idols have to vote her out. in that case, audience obviously do not deserve to get the 100% decision as we will lose talents like mathilda and more.
im not blaming joakim, but as whole he should improve and his fans mus make the right decisions. wad happens, it spoils the reputation of singapore idol.

Here is my guess of what going to happen in the coming grand final.

There are basically 3 factors that can win or break Jon from winning the idol this season.
- he is cool....but unfortunately too cool to be an idol unless those voting for him mature enough to understand be sway by his charisma or coolness...sadly not the case for the idol contest
- Hady seems to be holding back something (a past comments I have been observing from the judges)...and I might not surprise the TB's fans are backing him (thx to TB's comments, not that it matter much since Hady is a singer with or without such backing)
- Joakim's, Paul's, Rahimah's and Noodle's "factors". Where Mathilda's fans are probably divided between supporting the 2 finalists, I suspected majority of Jasmine's fans will support Jon. That 4 names I mentioned earlier have a huge teenage fan base. So far, where Jon's charisma had won him the aunties and uncles loyalty, that charisma has not sway any teenager as easily unless the teenager can relate his coolness/charismatic to oneself. If Jon wants to be an idol, he got to win those group of fans - remember TB won the Niklodeon awards? Well imagine Jon's and Hady vying for that award, who do you think will win? Can charisma win that vote? Bottomline, Hady has an edge over Jon where kids' appeal matter....

As for me, I give thumbs up to Hady...not that Jon is no good, but I suspect that Hady has something more that he had been hiding...or holding back. It will be one close fight...and I maybe wrong

i totally agree with asianidol's verdict.. but i think a singing competition people also need style. mathilda can sing, and style wise shes fine, but just doesnt appeal i guess. maybe its something to do with the so called x factor that only jon appears to have. go NUS~

hady has the gift of a being a singapore idol.

he is versatile, popular, handsome.
well i think his package is wonderful. in the start of his competition(in auditions) he wasn't that handsome after all. quite normal and bland. the power of designers and packaging.

well...now we get to the hardest stage to make a choice. Lets compare weaknesses and strengths

Jon- he tends to mumble. And i find that it does get unpleasant to hear especially when you really really listen carefully (second song on favourite song nite) He has beautiful low voice which i find mesmerizing...but only at times coupled with good song choice, attitude, and connectability. Other than that, he has the whole package, possess a seductive voice, great connection.

HAdy- He is very versatile...rock,classic,r n b, what have you?...i cant find fault with his singing. His weakness lies in the lack of connection with the audience sometimes? There are one or two songs sung by hady that i just dont 'feel' it although its good.

*mimics ANTM* So, will hady and jonathan please step forward. Two very talented guys stand before me and only one of you can be sgidol. So who goes home? the guy who mumbles but with great connectability? Or hady, the singing machine but sometimes lack of audience connection?

.....The answer will be known at the end of OCt 2006.

That is not true. America holds many more talent shows: Other than American Idol, there is Supernova, Nashville Star, Star Search (2004), Celebrity Duets.

Therefore, one cannot attribute American Idol's popularity and credibility to the fact that it is the only one out there. America's Got Talent (no pun intended)-- that's basically the difference. Just look at Stacie Orrico.

think properly, going to the top 12 is rather difficult.
u nid to get through a 2 out of 7 chance.
or not 8 out of 20 ousted chance to get into wildcard show and then a four out of eight chance.
in total, it is a 3 out of 7 chance.
but im so disappointed to see those in piano show performing badly,.
not only that, viewers decreased from the 1st season and so those voting r all fans . who have higher voting who gets in.especially piano show 4.
those should go in should b mathilda and meryl, but comes out emillee and nurul.

u noe why viewers decrease. there r so many star-searching contests! people get tired, unlike american where there is only american idol, so it is top 1 show.singapore host so many contests in 4 languages, so singaporeans dun really c the show, not to say vote for the show. as a result, the fans vote only, so despite a lack of quality guys like joakim still get their votes. its a popularity contest. so talents r usually covered.

that is why mediacorp decided that THIS SECOND SEASON OF SINGAPORE IDOL WOULD B THE LAST SEASON.
